End of Day Update

This morning Chase was visited by his grandmother, Susan, who stayed with him through the early afternoon. We took advantage of this window to return home — collecting fresh clothes, supplies, and enough entertainment to keep Chase occupied for the next few days. Kristen also made him pancakes and packed some favorite treats from home, it turns out hospital food has not exactly been winning Chase over.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly a visit from two of Chase’s friends, Vivian and Lilith, who came to cheer him up. It meant a great deal. His brother Cole also stopped by, splitting his time between quality time with Chase and the entertainment room’s pinball machine which offers unlimited play.

In the early evening the ophthalmoligist came by for another thorough eye exam. These exams are comprehensive and taxing; Chase finds them genuinely draining. Speaking of draining — in a significant milestone, the ophthalmologist removed the eye drain today. The tube that has been evacuating fluid from Chase’s eye since Friday night’s surgery has done its job and is now gone. Chase demonstrated absolute bravery during the removal.

Finally, Chase wanted to make sure we passed along a very important message. Happy Birthday Grandpa. 🎂
