Ophthalmology Check
The ophthalmology team came by for another thorough eye examination. The visit covered vision testing, eye movement, color recognition, and pressure measurement.
The Good News: Progress across the board. Notably:
- Eye pressure dropped from 20 this morning to 17 this afternoon — a meaningful improvement heading in exactly the right direction
- Vision is better than this morning — Chase was able to read letters more clearly as the exam progressed
- Eye movement — tested in all directions with no significant concerns
- Color recognition — Chase apparently loves this test and sailed through it
- A short walk outside earlier in the day may have actually helped loosen the swelling — movement proving therapeutic as the team had hoped
One Thing Being Watched: A small area of the conjunctiva — the membrane covering the eye — was noted to be protruding slightly, which can cause some irritation. The team is monitoring it but it is not an immediate concern.
Update Since the Visit: The ophthalmology attending reviewed all findings and came back quickly with two pieces of welcome news — Chase’s NPO order has been lifted (he can drink and eat!) and no CT scan is needed at this time. The improving pressure reading was reassuring enough to hold off on further imaging for now.
A Running Theme: The examining resident noted that Chase has become an outstanding patient through all of these eye exams — which are genuinely uncomfortable and taxing. His quiet resilience throughout has been remarked upon by multiple members of the team this week.
