Morning Rounds
For the first time in over a week Chase was taken off NPO status at midnight. Chase, nearing discharge tomorrow, is now appreciating some of the doctor bedside humor. When a resident asked him if he woke up to raid the kitchen after midnight, he smiled and offered a no, but that he did enjoy a glass of water in the morning
Infectious Disease Team: The infectious disease attending confirmed the plan to transition Chase to oral antibiotics tomorrow, seven days post surgery, the target he had set from the beginning. He will work out the specific antibiotic regimen and communicate it to the team. Once oral antibiotics are confirmed and Chase can demonstrate he tolerates them well, the last remaining reason to stay in the hospital is resolved.
Pediatric Attending: The attending had no significant concerns. A quick exam showed Chase’s eye movement continuing to improve, she described it as so much better today.
The Discharge Picture:
- Infectious disease is transitioning to oral antibiotics tomorrow
- ENT is happy and will see Chase for follow up outpatient appointments
- Ophthalmology and oculoplastics will need to formally sign off but are expected to do so
- Once the oral antibiotic regimen is confirmed, Chase can go home
Post Discharge Monitoring: The team gave a preview what will come after discharge, we’re confident there will be far more detail coming:
- Weekly lab monitoring
- Follow up appointments with ENT, ophthalmology, and infectious disease
